- Active Dry Yeast Active Dry Yeast 1/4 tsp 1/4 tsp
- Water Water 600ml 2 & 2/5 cups
- Granulated Sugar Granulated Sugar 1 tsp 1 tsp
- Table Salt Table Salt 1 tbsp 1 tbsp
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2 tbsp 2 tbsp
- Wheat Flour Wheat Flour 900g 7 & 1/2 cups
Instructions
- 1.Dissolve sugar in a glass of warm water, add dry yeast and allow to rest until it grows and forms a thick foam on top.
- 2.Meanwhile, add warm water and salt in a medium pot.
- 3.In a large bowl, sieve the flour and pour in the oil then start adding the yeast, and then slowly the lukewarm salted water while kneading.
- 4.Knead firmly for at least 15 minutes (the longer the better) or until smooth and elastic.
- 5.Form a ball and place the dough in a greased bowl, cover and let rise for about 3-6 hrs, in a warm dark place until doubled.
- 6.Once doubled place dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead again to reactivate the rising process, then shape it into a loaf.
- 7.Place on a baking sheet covered with baking paper, cover and let rise again about 30-45 minutes.
- 8.Bake in a preheated oven at 180° for 40-45 minutes or until golden on the crust and bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- 9.Remove from oven and allow to cool.
